Weekend Box Office Report (August 31st - September 3rd)

Disclaimer: Every Monday, I will post the top five movies that grossed the most money DOMESTICALLY (in the United States), with some brief thoughts about each film. 

1. Crazy Rich Asians ($22.10 Million): The crazy sensation that is sweeping across the nation, the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians remains number one for the third straight weekend. Whatever the appeal may be, the film is raking in money week after week and has started a revolution for Asian actors and filmmakers everywhere; I equate this film's success to something like Black Panther, though these two are in completely different contexts. 

2. The Meg ($10.54 Million): The Jason Stathem-led film is continuing to make money, despite lukewarm critical reception. It's sticking in the top five ever since its release. Granted, there wasn't much competition, but still. This film should be considered a success as it is. 

3. Mission: Impossible - Fallout ($7.04 Million): The highest grossing Mission: Impossible film already, the sixth film in the franchise will for sure lead to a seventh. The film, deservedly-so, is making more money than all of the other fie films in the franchise. 

4. Searching ($6.07 Million): Shoutout to this film; I have a connection to the filmmaker, and though I haven't met him, do know him indirectly. It's great to see a passion-project like this jump into the top five, standing next to films like Mission: Impossible. I hope this film goes on to not only make more money, but also find its ways on many people's screens across the globe. 

5. Operation: Finale ($6.02 Million); The Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac led film slots in at number five. There isn't much to say about it; I doubt it will be staying here for long, but it took in a meager six million.
