Weekend Box Office Report (May 31st - June 2nd)

Weekend Box Office Report (May 31st - June 2nd)

Disclaimer: Every Monday, I will post the top five movies that grossed the most money DOMESTICALLY (in the United States), with some brief thoughts about each film.

1. Godzilla: King of the Monsters ($49.03 Million): While the latest film in the monster-verse has indeed reached the number one spot in the box office, make no mistake, it has massively underperformed. The film came in well under the 55-70 million industry projections. While Godzilla v. Kong has already been shot, this is sure to make Warner Bros. nervous.

2. Aladdin (2019) ($42.34 Million): Despite being in the number two spot, it almost beat the King of the Monsters. Coming less than 10 million dollars away from taking the top spot, despite some mixed critical reception, Aladdin will continue to make money and appeal to the family audience (at least until The Lion King).

3. Rocketman ($25.00 Million): Rocketman was not expected to make 100 million opening weekend, but 25 does seem a little less than the studio would have wanted, ESPECIALLY after the huge success of Bohemian Rhapsody. Look for the film to come in under 200 million worldwide.

4. Ma ($18.26 Million): I personally didn't expect this to come into the top 5, especially with Avengers: Endgame, but Ma, despite the critical panning, has come in at the number 4 spot.

5. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum ($11.10 Million): John Wick 3 is continuing to tear through the box office. Keanu Reeves has never been bigger, and I think while the film won't make 500 million worldwide, it will be enough to greenlight John Wick 4

How Did I Do (Weekend Box Office Predictions)
Number of Films Correct: 4/5
Number of Films IN RIGHT SPOT Correct: 3/5 (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Aladdin, Rocketman)
