X-Men: Dark Phoenix Set for Lengthy Reshoots

X-Men: Dark Phoenix Set for Lengthy Reshoots

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is one of the films that no one really understands at this point. No one is quite sure when this film is going to come out and whether or not this film is actually going to get made. But now, it looks like an interesting tidbit has been revealed. According to reports, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will undergo reshoots. Now, while this isn't a surprise seeing as this is a big budget movie, the next piece of information is what makes it interesting. According to these reports, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will undergo reshoots that will last for about three months. This is significant because typically, an entire film of this size can be filmed in three months. These reports are yet unconfirmed.

Updates on The Batman - Affleck Still Involved

Updates on The Batman - Affleck Still Involved

The Batman has been the topic of much discussion in the past few years, with talks of whether Ben Affleck would direct, act, or produce the film. Now, according to Production Weekly, Affleck will be involved with the film, but in a much more limited capacity. Affleck will only reportedly be a producer, and nothing more. He will not be the caped crusader, and the role will go to a much younger actor. "Producer" can mean a lot of different things, so it remains to be seen exactly how much influence the film. Along with this information, the reports claim the film will actually begin filming in the spring of 2019 with an unconfirmed release date.

Gunn to Return to Different Property at Marvel?

Gunn to Return to Different Property at Marvel?

In the absence of Gunn, many are wondering whether or not he will return amid the controversy and support form many Hollywood actors and directors across the country. Now, new reports from The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that Gunn may actually return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not in the way that many think. According to these reports, Gunn will return to the MCU to direct another MCU property, or at least produce and oversee it. This has not been confirmed, but if this is true, with the Fox/Disney merger having gone through, Fantastic Four might be a good bet. No official news has been released as of yet.

Whether or not this will go through remains to be seen.

[Updated] Marvel Wants to Use James Gunn's GOTG 3 Script

[Updated] Marvel Wants to Use James Gunn's GOTG 3 Script

After reports claiming that Marvel no longer wanted to use Gunn's script, new reports from The Hollywood Reporter claim that Marvel is indeed moving ahead with Gunn's current script. While the debate has been going on about whether or not Gunn's firing was the right choice, cast members, namely Dave Bautista, have made it clear that if Gunn's script isn't used, then they would quit the film. It looks like that with these new reports that Gunn's script will be largely adapted and brought to eh big screen come 2020 or whenever the official release date is announced to be.

Disney Streaming Won't Include Pre-2019 Star Wars Movies

Disney Streaming Won't Include Pre-2019 Star Wars Movies

With Disney set to launch their own streaming service very soon, question of whether or not theStar Wars films would be included has been in the air, and now it looks like we have our answer. According to Iger, the recent Star Wars films, which includes The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rogue One, and Solo, will not be included on the streaming service for now. The backstory and gist of it is that the rights belong to another company, and Iger is trying to work out a deal or wait for the rights to revert back to Disney. However, he did say that the original trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy will be included.

Sonic the Hedgehog Finds Voice

Sonic the Hedgehog Finds Voice

With the rise of the animated film genre in recent years that have lead to several "spoof"/parody type films, another has come along in the form of the Sonic the Hedgehog film. Unlike the previous Nintendo film, one centering around Mario and Luigi, this one doesn't look to be taking itself too seriously, and has now cast the lead voice in the form of Bob Schwartz. Schwartz will join Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.

Sonic the Hedgehog will hit theaters on November 15th, 2019.

Oscars Add New Popular Film Category

Oscars Add New Popular Film Category

The Academy Award has made some announcements that have led to some immediate controversy. One of the first things that they announced was that the Oscars will be committed to a three hour show, announcing some winners during the commercial break. However, the biggest announcement is that the Academy will be incorporating a "Best Popular Film" category. The specifications have not been announced, but it may include films such as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Ready: Player One, and so much more. It remains to be seen what the general consensus on this is.

James Gunn GOTG 3 Script Out?

James Gunn GOTG 3 Script Out?

With all the controversy surrounding Gunn, another rumor has been added to the mix. According to Christopher Marc, who was the editor-in-chief of Omega Underground, posted on Twitter saying "Marvel Studios may have indeed tossed out James Gunn's script for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.3." These are still rumors, and are not confirmed. However, this may mean that Dave Bautista may exit the film.

Plans for X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool 2 Teased by Disney

With the merger between 20th Century Fox and Disney moving full steam ahead, the X-Men and Fantastic Four are heading straight for Marvel Studios and the MCU. And now, the CEO of Disney have confirmed indirectly that they are moving ahead with plans for the projects. Bob Iger had this to say:

"20th Century Fox is yet another example. It gives us the opportunity to be associated with and to expand iconic movie franchises like Avatar, Marvel's X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Planet of the Apes, Kingsman, and many others."

Power Rangers Sequel in Development

Power Rangers Sequel in Development

While 2017's iteration of the Power Rangers was not the most critically successful, nor lucrative for Saban, it looks like the franchise will be getting a sequel with a different company. It was announced a little while ago that Hasbro had gotten the rights back for Power Rangers, which included the movie rights. Now, Inside Licensing reports that Hasbro is indeed developing a direct sequel to the 2017 Power Rangers film. No other details have been announced.

Two MCU Favorites Confirmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home

Two MCU Favorites Confirmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home

While we know that many of the dusted heroes will appear again in Avengers 4, not much is known about the next film in the MCU, the first one of Phase 4, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Now, we do have confirmation that two fan-favorite MCU actors are set to appear in the film. Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are set to appear, in an unspecified role according to Vulture, in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This was reported unofficially on Instagram a few days ago, but looks to be true as the two will appear next to Peter Parker (Tom Holland). No word on any other details from Marvel as of yet.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will hit theaters on July 5th, 2019.

Coming Soon: August 10th

Coming Soon: August 13th

Every Tuesday, I will be breaking down the top films hitting theaters that coming Friday. There are a large number of films that open every weekend, so I will highlight the films that I believe will be worth seeing.

1. The Meg: The Jason Statham-led monster movie sets sail and hits theaters this Friday. In a relatively quiet month of August, this has the potential to be one of the bigger movies to go out and see. This could even dethrone Mission: Impossible - Fallout, although my money is still on Mission: Impossible - Fallout to win the weekend. But look for the latest shark film to take a bite out of the box office; while clearly not for everyone, it has the widest appeal of any movie opening this weekend.

2. Slender Man: Perhaps a very niche film, for those who enjoy the horror genre, Slender Man will quietly hit theaters, and if you enjoy this kind of movie, then this will be right up your alley. It's the only other "big" film that's opening this weekend, but even so, don't expect for this movie to make a lot or be received with the same critical warmth as previous films in the summer.

Villain of Birds of Prey Revealed?

Villain of Birds of Prey Revealed?

Birds of Prey recently revealed an unofficial synopsis, and now it looks like we may have reports on who the villain of the film is. The synopsis reads that the mission of the three anti-heroines is to rescue a little girl, and according to The Wrap, the villain will be Black Mask. Though not confirmed, black Mask will play primary antagonist to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Huntress, Black Canary, and Renee Montoya. Other details have not been confirmed as of yet.

Creed 2 is ramping up their marketing campaign, releasing trailers and promotional materials, and now it looks like we have our first official images from the movie. They show Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed with Sylvester Stallone's Rocky, as well as other stills from the upcoming film. Check them out below.

Creed 2 hits theaters on November 21st, 2018.

Dave Bautista Threatens to Quit GOTG

Dave Bautista Threatens to Quit GOTG

Dave Bautista, one of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy who plays Drax the Destroyer, has just threatened to quit the franchise amid the James Gunn controversy. Bautista took to Twitter to say the following:

"I will do what im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GoTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn't GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who'd empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis. That's just how I feel."

Whether or not Disney will take his claims seriously, Bautista has left his mark for sure. It's very hard for Disney to ignore what one of their main five has said about one of their most lucrative franchises. Disney has not commented as of yet.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout - Review

Mission: Impossible - Fallout - Review

Release date (US): July 27th, 2018

Directed By: Christopher McQuarrie

Rating: PG-13

Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Alec Baldwin, Henry Cavill, Michelle Monoghan, Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley

Expectations/Background: Having only seen one film in the franchise many years ago, Mission; Impossible - Ghost Protocol, I was only vaguely familiar with the characters and the premise. Of course, everyone has heard the legendary theme song, and everyone knows Tom Cruise is Ethan Hunt (presumably), and the iconic line "Your mission, should you choose to accept it". But honestly, after that, that's about all I knew going into the movie. I didn't remember much from the fourth film in the franchise. I only knew that this film had the same cast of characters from the fifth film, Rogue Nation, which I had heard great things about. What really brought my excitement up a few notches were the trailers. I didn't have much interest in the movie, but once I was sitting down in a theater before a different movie and I saw the trailers, I was absolutely blown away. The way the intrigue was set up, the way the music was integrated so seamlessly into the tone of the trailer and movie, I was hooked. I thought this movie had humongous potential. So, when the opportunity arose, I took the time to go and see the film, hoping for a quality product.

My Thoughts: I'm going to start off by talking about something that I thought was a weakness at first, before quickly turning into a strength. When the movie was starting, being the sixth film in the franchise that I had little to no investment in, I was thoroughly confused. I remained confused for a long period of time, and was beginning to think that I had picked the wrong movie. But this is where this film proved me wrong; the film held my hand just enough so that I had enough exposition and background knowledge to go off of and by the time the credits rolled, I was floored.

There really is no other way to say it; I was floored by the movie. It is one of the best action films that I've seen in a long time and perhaps one of the best films that I've seen this year.

Before diving straight into the positives, which there are a lot of, let me start off with a few negatives. I do agree that this film is not a film banking on Oscar-worthy performances, not in the slightest. That being said, as a critic I do want to point that not all the performances were that strong. Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise; take it or leave it. You either enjoy him or don't. As for me personally, I do enjoy him for what he is doing. The supporting cast, though, comes off a little stale and one note at times. Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are easily the most charismatic members of the group, and I assume that's because they've been in the franchise long enough to develop their characters. However, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, and Henry Cavill in particular are extremely one note. Henry Cavill, whom I've never quite enjoyed in a film before, delivers his dialogue in the same monotone kind of voice that I've gotten bored of so quickly after Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman. His character is complex, which I appreciate greatly, but the way that he plays it is extremely monotone and rather boring in certain points.

Also, in an attempt to hold the audience's hand, there is some heavy-handed exposition, especially at one point in the film. While I greatly appreciated the backstory that was being given, I did think that it could have been done in a more natural, seamless fashion. I think that instead of spewing all this character development out from one character to another, there could have even been some flashbacks or memory scenes that did the same thing effectively.

There is one action scene in particular towards the end that utilizes a dark setting. This is fine, and I think can be done very effectively, if not for the fact that I could hardly see what was going on at that point. It was hard to pick up who was doing what and who was shooting at who, and overall, it was could have used some more lighting.

But let's move on to the things that make this film so special.

Firstly, and I think most importantly, the intrigue. This film actually serves more as a mystery film than an action. It truly keeps you guessing from start to finish, and by the time you have all the pieces put in place is when the film hits another gear and just ramps everything up to 11. I think that's one of the biggest positives that any film can have; I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire first two acts trying to figure out certain aspects (no spoilers), before the film kicks into the third act.

Speaking of the third act, we need to talk about the third act. While the first two acts spend most of the time trying to set up intrigue, the third act is all payoff, and it's beautiful. It intercuts between a couple of plot-lines that are going on, and while one is clearly more interesting and engaging than the other, you're always captivated. And yes, Tom Cruise is insane, but we know this. The second he starts doing his crazy stunts, you can't help but drop your jaw in awe at the things he (not his stuntman) is doing. It's truly a spectacle to see him do the things he does towards the end of the movie.

The second thing I will commend the film is the pacing. This film is impeccably paced; there isn't a moment where it slows down when it doesn't have to. There are one or two scenes that are a little "slow", yes, but intentionally I believe to set up character motivations and arcs. I think that almost every single scene serves a type of purpose, which is another huge praise towards the film, editors, and director.

Aside from the third act, the other action scenes in the film are also great, save for the aforementioned "dark" scene. They are well choreographed, as well as well-shot. They show off each character's particular skillset and are engaging, gripping, and thrilling. That's really all you can ask for in a film that is labeled as an action movie.

And while the film doesn't quite deliver an emotional "oomph" that you might want from other types of films, it has enough going on already that by the time the movie ends, you feel so emotionally and even physically satisfied.

That's really the highest praise I can give a movie; that when the credits roll, you feel fulfilled. You feel satisfied with the experience that was just delivered to you, and that's exactly what this movie does.

The Music/Score: Bravo. Bravo to Lorne  Balfe, who delivers a score that is so reliant on the original Mission: Impossible theme in all the best ways. When you have a theme that is so iconic, captivating, bombastic, and fits in line with the tone of movie so well, my philosophy is to just use it. And use it he did; there are motifs that are just blared over and over again in all the right places, and for me, the score was one of the absolute highlights of the movie. Hands down.

In Conclusion: Is this the best film of the year? Not quite. Is this the best film in the franchise? Also debatable considering that I haven't seen four of the other ones. But what I can tell you is that this is a terrific film all around. It has intrigue, heart, soul, action, thrills, and a great story. Walking out of this film, it's hard not to feel like you got the most out of every single minute of the two and a half hours, and that should tell you enough about the movie.

Editorial #10 (Pop Culture) - My Thoughts on Leia in Episode 9

Editorial #10 (Pop Culture) - My Thoughts on Leia in Episode 9

It's no secret that after the mourning period for Carrie Fisher, Rest in Peace, passed, many turned to their attention to Lucasfilm and Disney; what were they going to do? The Last Jedi came, and lo and behold, Fisher's General Leia was seen on the Falcon flying away into space with Rey. So what was going to happen?

In July of 2018, we finally have our answer, and frankly, it was one that not many of us saw coming. J.J. Abrams, the director of the upcoming sequel, and Disney/Lucasfilm were going to reuse footage from Episodes VII and VIII to put Leia in the film, with her daughter, Billie Lourd's blessing.

What do I think? I think this is brilliant IF they can pull it off.

There is a lot to be said about having one director direct an entire trilogy of films. When Rian Johnson was announced to take over for J.J. Abrams it cane as a pleasant surprise as fans. However, as VIII came and went, it became increasingly apparent that Abrams had a slightly different vision for the trilogy and Johnson may have ignored some subtle cues that Abrams was planting and had gone in his own direction. But now that Abrams is back, he is free to take the reins.

Of course, no one anticipated that Fisher would pass so soon; we all held our breath as the heart attack came but were hoping for the best. Ultimately, she passed on and we would never see another live performance from our princess ever again.

And yet, Johnson held his course. Whether or not this was what Abrams intended for originally, Johnson held fast and kept Leia alive at the end of Episode VIII. And now Abrams has to deal with the ramifications.

Many were thinking about the possibility, with the idea that Meryl Streep would step in and take her place. Streep and Fisher had worked together before and were considered friends in the Hollywood industry. The idea, while having its positives, also had negatives; we were so captivated with Fisher specifically, and while an actress the caliber of Streep would have done an excellent job, it was Fisher's role to finish.

Another possibility being thrown around, especially after Rogue One did it, was a complete CGI Leia. This idea was maligned as well, as the technology was not quite there.

But Disney and Lucasfilm did the right thing in my opinion; they are letting Fisher take her own legacy and finish it off in the final installment. This, I believe amid all the different possibilities that I'm sure Disney was contemplating, was the one that I think makes the most sense on paper. Obviously, none of us know how much footage that they have of Leia, but it must have been enough for Abrams and Lourd, as well as Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilm) to give the go ahead.

This is so wonderful because I think it allows Fisher to finish her own story, while working around the problem of her passing. Now, granted, I think that this could go wrong in a few scenarios. I think that there is a distinct possibility that this could be Abrams trying to force whatever extra footage there was and try to shove it into the film just as a desperate attempt. This could be the case. This could be a case of having footage that doesn't even fit the story, but putting it in there anyways. But regardless, as it stands, almost a year and a half before the film even hits theaters, I believe that Disney and Lucasfilm made the right choice.

Editorial #9 - Toxic Fandom

Editorial #9 - Toxic Fandom

Let me start of by saying this: above all else, when it comes to movie and popular culture, I am a fan. More than being a critic, or a pundit, a writer, a blogger, whatever it may be, I am a fan. I don't go to the theater, follow news stories, get excited when trailers come out because it's my obligation to (99 percent of the time). I go because I enjoy the exhilarating experience that following a story, seeing new characters, and seeing what other's people's visions are. So keeping in mind that I am firstly and most importantly a fan, I would like to state something that I think is becoming increasingly more evident as the weeks roll by.

True, authentic, genuine, heartfelt fandom is dying. And it's being eaten up by a toxic, wasteful, disgusting side of popular culture that we have opened up.

There's no particular point when this began. Not really. It started to grow gradually in the past five or so years as the world began to realize that huge comic book films and space epics were reaching their peak (they still haven't hit it, but I think it's close). And then, slowly you would begin to see something. When a new film would come out, you would of course have those who praised the film, and those who said they didn't like it. That's the subjective nature of film, and yet you would see something else growing out of the shadows. This third group that refused to be silenced and wanted their voice to be heard.

These fans said things like, "I don't like this movie because there's a black character" or "I think X actor is bad because they're X" or "I hate X because it's stupid". Popular culture no longer became a safe space where you could express your opinions freely. No. It was a place where you were attacked because you legitimately believed something, and were told that you were wrong even though there is no physical, possible, tangible way that an opinion can be wrong. All opinions are valid THAT ARE BASED IN REASON AND FACT. And the fact of the matter is that we are seeing more and more people hate and spread negativity simply because they want to.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi I think encapsulates the epitome of this. The film wasn't perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination in my opinion, but no film is. In my opinion, the Canto Byte sequence was reminiscent of Prequel-era Star Wars, but I loved the rest of the film. And there were those who genuinely didn't like the film for what it was, which is fine. But then there was an explosion, an uproar of a side of fandom that expressed such malignant, hateful thoughts that spewed out of place of cowardice, fear, and evil. Fans began to send death threats to the cast and crew simply because they were Asian, black, or even white. The director, Rian Johnson, received threats to a huge extent, and there were campaigns made to remake the film simply because they didn't like it.

And so we stand today; whenever a film comes out, fans are not free to express their opinions anymore simply because you have to either take a left wing or right wing approach. There can be no film that is simply "okay" or "good", not anymore. There is no middle ground, no room to explore what being a fan really means. And that's eating away at my heart.

I want to implore fans who genuinely enjoy being fans, who love the experiences of going to the theater, following story arcs, listening to friendly debate, to not tolerate this. That when you see people attacking you for what you believe in simply because it's not what they believe, to make a stand. Because if we do nothing, then fandom will slowly crumble from the inside.

Weekend Box Office Report (August 3rd - August 5th)

Weekend Box Office Report (August 3rd - August 5th)

Disclaimer: Every Monday, I will post the top five movies that grossed the most money DOMESTICALLY (in the United States), with some brief thoughts about each film.

1. Mission: Impossible - Fallout ($35.00 Million): Looking to build off the success of the last weekend as well as the huge critical reception, Mission: Impossible - Fallout has deservedly taken the number one spot again. Since there is relatively little competition in the coming weeks, it looks to hold onto the spot for the majority of August, and at least stay in the top five throughout the rest of September.

2. Disney's Christopher Robin ($25.00 Million): While the film didn't receive high critical praise, Disney's Christopher Robin still made a decent 25 million at the domestic box office this past weekend. The family oriented film provided a good counter to all the other programming that was going on, which may entice families to come in the coming weeks as well. Look for this film to make a decent amount of money, maybe 100-200 million at the box office.

3. The Spy Who Dumped Me ($12.35 Million): The Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis led comedy slotted in nicely in the number three spot. It didn't make much, but it was more than many had anticipated. While this film will soon fade, it looks to capitalize on the hard-R comedy audience while it still can.

4. Mama Mia! Here We Go Again ($9.09 Million): Speaking of counter-programming, this musical sequel took the number 4 spot taking in another 9 million. It will quickly fade, but not before it has made its mark on the domestic box office.

5. The Equalizer 2 ($8.83 Million): And finally, the Denzel-led action thriller squeaks into the number five spot, barely missing 9 million. Look for this film to make another 20 million total at the domestic box office before concluding its run.

How Did I Do (Weekend Box Office Predictions): N/A

Robert Redford to Retire From Acting

Robert Redford to Retire From Acting

One of the most celebrated actors of the past fifty years, Robert Redford, has officially announced that he will retire from acting. Redford, 81, has had a long and illustrious career, spanning from films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to a recent superhero film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Rumored Birds of Prey Synopsis Revealed?

Rumored Birds of Prey Synopsis Revealed?

Harley Quinn was one of the standouts from the dismal Suicide Squad, and now it looks like her next project with DC may have gotten an unofficial synopsis. Discussing Film has reported the blurb, which readS:

"After splitting up with the Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes - Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya - come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lords."

This sounds very artificial and could very well be fake, but it has just an equal likelihood of being true as well. If this is to be believed, then the film will begin with Harley splitting from the Joker, which is an interesting revelation considering that Jared Leto's Joker is reportedly getting his own solo film very soon. Nothing has been officially confirmed by DC.

Supergirl Movie Rumored to be in Development

Supergirl Movie Rumored to be in Development

Worlds of DC, as it is now being called, has had many projects rumored to be revving up before slowly fading away into obscurity. Now, according to reports, we may have another to join the rumored Birds of Prey, Joker, Joker/Harley, and Suicide Squad 2 pile. DC is apparently hiring a writer according to reports from Deadline and is looking ahead to move forward with a Supergirl film. No other information at this time has been announced, but it would be one of many to be added to the pile of discarded ideas that have been hurriedly announced.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald - Trailer 2 Review (SDCC)

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald - Trailer 2 Review (SDCC)

The second trailer for Fantastic Beasts 2 has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: I enjoyed the first film, and the first trailer for this movie. I think that this trailer was even a little better.

This trailer goes a little more in depth on Dumbledore and Grindewald, which I greatly enjoyed. Johnny Depp, for all the drama surrounding him, looks awesome as Grindewald, and menacing as well. The rest of the cast is back, and I think that they look great.

The end gag with Kowalski didn't look that great, in my opinion, but other than that, I think there is a lot to like. The visuals look awesome, although a little grey, and the story is intriguing. I can't wait to see this in November.

Did it Raise Excitement? I loved the first film a lot more than most, and this trailer was a significant improvement over the first, so I will definitely say it did. I am super excited for the film (although disappointed that Jude Law said Dumbledore and Grindewald won't have any scenes together).

Trailer Rating: 9/10

Godzilla: King of Monsters - Trailer 1 Review (SDCC)

Godzilla: King of Monsters - Trailer 1 Review (SDCC)

The first trailer for Godzilla: King of Monsters has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: I hadn't seen the first Godzilla film in a long time. It's been awhile since it hit theaters, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this second film. Then the trailer hit.

This trailer was awesome.

I think that the best thing about this trailer is the tone and intrigue, as well as the beautiful visuals that compliment it. This trailer, being a first trailer, doesn't reveal anything, really. It shows shots of monsters and Godzilla, and I think that works to its benefit.

I think that the shadowy kind of theme is amazing, as it shrouds the villains and characters in mystery. It's great to see Millie Bobbie Brown, and hopefully we get to see more of Godzilla this time around. Other than that, there's not much to say other than I'm hyped.

Did it Raise Excitement? Absolutely. I thought this trailer had intrigue, heavy visuals, and just went for it. It's going to be a crazy movie, but I love it. It looks like a heck of a ride.

Trailer Rating: 9/10

Venom - Trailer 2 Review

Venom - Trailer 2 Review

The second trailer for Venom has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: Venom has been the talk of a lot of people lately as the promotional campaign ramps up. But while many people have praised the first trailer and this one as well, I'm going to go out there and say an unpopular thing, which is simply my opinion: I don't like this trailer at all.

Let's start on the positives though; I think the LOOK of Venom is terrifying and awesome, as he should be. It's creepy, disgusting, and horrifying in all the best ways; this is how Venom should have looked. I completely dig his look.

That's about it.

The story looks absolutely so generic, and Michelle Williams looks like she's going to be wasted yet again. Tom Hardy's performance is awful, ham-fisted, and over the top. I hate his character even before I've seen the movie. I hate Eddie Brock, because there's just a level of pretentiousness about him. AGAIN, maybe that's the point, but the trailer is doing him no favors. Also, he's fairly hard to understand at the end tag-scene.

And the ending fight between Riot and Venom. That CGI mess of limbs and goo and red and white and black just rotating in slow-motion looks like an absolute mess.

Did it Raise Excitement? Not at all. After seeing the first trailer, which I thought was absolutely atrocious, this did the film no favors. It was slightly better, but again, this film does not look good.

Trailer Rating: 3/10

Shazam - Official Teaser Trailer Review ISDCC)

Shazam - Official Teaser Trailer Review (SDCC)

The first trailer for Shazam has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: No one really saw this trailer coming. We all knew the Aquaman trailer was coming, but then DC dropped the first trailer for Shazam.

While many people have been praising the film's use of comedy and lightness, I'm going to be quite honest; I don't like it. It's not a bad trailer by any means, and honestly the comedy looks like it will work. That's not my issue. My issue is the look of the film.

I've seen this trailer a few times, and every single time, I had no idea what felt off. The tone was fine, the characters were fine, the comedy was fine. Then it hit me; this film felt like a TV episode. The sets felt cheap, the costumes felt cheap, the way it was shot feels cheap, nothing about this trailer feels cinematic. Which is fine... except that 50 million + AT LEAST was put into this movie and this is what you come up with?

On top of that, there are so many cliches from this trailer, like fish out of water, or boy who is bullied, or boy moving to foster homes. It just feels so generic. That's the only way I can describe the trailer.

But to end on a positive note, Levi looks good in the role (the costume is still eh for me). His kid friend looks cool, too, and the robbery scene looks fun, although I'm not sure if it was good to reveal in the trailer.

Did it Raise Excitement? I'm going to say no. I didn't quite know what to make of this movie when it was announced, and this film feels cheap and meant for TV. I'm not quite excited; it looks like it'll be a goofy kid's cartoon for two hours.

Aquaman - Official Trailer Review (SDCC)

Aquaman - Official Trailer Review (SDCC)

The first trailer for Aquaman has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: A lot was riding on this film's first trailer. This could potentially be the film that sinks or floats (no pun intended) the DCEU, or Worlds of DC as it is now rebranded. And to their credit, as per usual, DC put out a very solid trailer.

It is worth noting that DC has a history of putting out great trailers for movies that I personally found unpleasant to watch, i.e. Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman. However, if we're just judging the trailer on its own merit, it is a very solid trailer.

Atlantis, though a little CGI for my taste, does look beautiful. The way they dealt with the underwater setting seems very real and very tangible, like a real place that would exist underwater. Momoa, as he was in Justice League, was fine, as he had been. I thought that his performance was acceptable and I see nothing that has really changed in between films. The supporting cast for the most part looks great, especially Nicole Kidman.

And finally, to cap off the positives, the tone of the trailer is excellent. It is urgent, it is darker, but still light at the same time, with a sense of real stakes, something that the DCEU has lacked in previous films.

That being said, I do have some issues. Firstly, the dialogue is awful. Momoa is portrayed as a fifteen year old punk, and I can't say I'm a huge fan. And almost everything that comes out of Amber Heard's mouth is exposition mumbo-jumbo that makes me roll my eyes. Also, some of the CGI does look a little clunky for my taste, and the CGI at the end with the huge armies does not look appealing IN THE SLIGHTEST. I don't know that I'd want to see a ton of red and blue lasers firing across a bunch of sharks.

Did it Raise Excitement? It did; I do have faith that this film will be better than the previous films, not counting Wonder Woman. But I'm still slightly hesitant.

Glass - Teaser Trailer Review (SDCC)

Glass - Teaser Trailer Review (SDCC)

The first teaser for Glass has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: I had heard many things about the film, and having known the reputation of M. Night, I knew that I was going to see something unique and interesting at the vey least, whether atrocious or masterful.

This trailer is very good. That much I do know. While I didn't get a lot of "Wow!" moments from the first teaser, there was enough there that warranted me to get the blood flowing. The moment when all three of them were sitting down in front of the psychiatrist was chilling.

I will say that as someone who has no previous knowledge of the franchise, or very minimal at the very least, I did think the trailer did a great job at filling me in on the happenings in the previous films. That being said, I do feel that the front end of the trailer is much better than the latter half, which is just a blur of images that go by very quickly. But overall, very solid.

Did it Raise Excitement? I believe it did. While I am one of the people who hasn't seen either Split or Unbreakable, I will admit that after hearing the huge buzz behind both of these films, this trailer did make me excited for the film.

Incredibles 2 Crosses Billion Dollar Mark

Incredibles 2 Crosses Billion Dollar Mark

Incredibles 2 has been in theaters for a while, and now has become just the seventh animated film to cross the billion dollar mark. One of the highest pieces of recognition for a film to receive at the box office, the film crossed the billion dollar mark worldwide in the past couple days, joining films in 2018 such as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While not finished with its theatrical run, the film will wrap up shortly, ending one of the most lucrative and fan-celebrated animated films of the past few years.
