Men in Black: International - Trailer 1 Review

Men in Black: International - Trailer 1 Review

The first trailer for Men in Black: International has arrived. Does it deliver?

Thoughts: The Men in Black films were some of my favorites growing up. They were weird, they were wacky, and Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones had great chemistry. It was just fun to see these guys in suits blast aliens from space. But the studios apparently thought the gig got old, and thus canceled the franchise.

Until now. The franchise is back in a soft-reboot (we think?), starring Thor: Ragnarok co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as Agent H and Agent M.

And while, admittedly, the trailer is a bit confusing and all over the place, the pure nostalgia of seeing the world and the technology made me realize that I had nostalgia for this franchise in the first place.

What made this trailer so enjoyable for me was the chemistry between Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. What this trailer did so well to begin was to set up their chemistry and their relationship. Thompson is a new recruit and Hemsworth is one of the best; yet their personalities are almost inverted. Thompson is the serious, eager agent while Hemsworth likes to have fun. I think Hemsworth's comedy is a huge assert to any movie, and while the jokes may not have been the best, his humor still radiates from his goofiness; he barely has to try.

Liam Neeson and Kumail Nanjiani are also in the film, and Neeson gets a big voiceover (because why wouldn't you if you have Neeson). Other than that, it looks to be a fun action ride and a movie that looks to capitalize on an eager fanbase.

Did it Raise Excitement? I wasn't looking to this film that much before the trailer, but as aforementioned, I realized I do have sentimental attachment to this franchise. My interest definitely has risen after seeing it and I'm excited to see where they take it next.

Trailer Rating: 7/10
