Mowgli - Official Trailer Review
Thoughts: Despite Jon Favreau's recent Jungle Book, adaptation, which I thoroughly enjoyed and even loved, I was looking forward to this rendition by Andy Serkis immensely. It had the all-star cast, the master of motion-capture, and all the makings to be another great telling of the story. And I thought to myself that there would be enough in this film to differentiate itself form the other version. And maybe there is - but you could not tell from the trailer.
One of the biggest mistakes that this trailer made was reuse some of the EXACT same dialogue that the other Jungle Book trailer used. "The jungle is no longer safe for you". "I'm not a man". These lines were used in the EXACT same context in the other trailers, and were it not for those lines, this trailer would have been fine. But because those lines were used, it evoked feelings and thoughts of the other film.
Other than that, all the animals looked... interesting. They looked markedly more cartoonish than the other version, ESPECIALLY the wolf. The wolf looked so cartoonish that it took me out of the entire trailer.
The voice cast looks (sounds?) great, as Christian Bale's Bagheera is very different than Ben Kingsley's. And of course, Benedict Cumberbatch's voice can do no wrong, as his Shere Khan intimidates and terrifies.
But other than, all I could think about was the other Jungle Book - and that is not a good thing for Andy Serkis.
Did it Raise Excitement? It lowered my excitement a little bit. I'm still excited, but I just keep getting the feeling that "I've seen this before".
