Weekend Box Office Report (June 1st - June 3rd)
Disclaimer: Every Monday, I will post the top five movies that grossed the most money DOMESTICALLY (in the United States), with some brief thoughts about each film.
1. Solo: A Star Wars Story ($29.40 Million): While solo: A Star Wars Story did manage to take the number one spot again this weekend, it did so by taking an over 70 percent drop to barely edge out the action-comedy Deadpool 2. This bodes poorly for the latest entry in teh Star Wars saga, and looks to have Disney reconsider their plans for future anthology films.
2. Deadpool 2 ($23.18 Million): While the placement of this film (surrounded by other tentpole blockbusters) is not doing this movie any favors, Deadpool 2 is holding up rather nicely, and almost retook the number one spot from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Already breaking records for R-rated comic book movies, as long as Deadpool 2 can hold out for a few more weeks, it should be enough to call it a smash hit.
3. Adrift ($11.60 Million): The Sam Clafin Shailene Woodley led indie film hit theaters and made a decent amount to claim the third spot in the top 5. While it was not as lucrative as other films were on its first weekend, it's a nice little opening total that looks to carry this film to about 50-75 million.
4. Avengers: Infinity War ($10.51 Million): During the summer months, there always has to be a behemoth lingering in the wings, and this week, it's Avengers: Infinity War. The film, nearing 2 billion dollars worldwide, is in the number four spot in its fourth weekend, and looks to remain a mainstay for a couple more weeks to come.
5. Book Club ($7.04 Million): While impressive that this small film remained in the top five, it won't stay here for long. Taking in another 7 million, Book Club will not remain in the top five for long.
