What Should Disney Do after the Box Office Failure of Solo?

What Should Disney Do after the Box Office Failure of Solo?

**THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE ANALYSIs, AND CONTAINS NO SPOILERS FOR THE FILM.**

Solo: A Star Wars Story has hit theaters and has underperformed in almost every way. While projections were not aiming that high for the latest anthology film, Solo even underperformed those and would up with a baffling $84 million, far below anyone's expectations, even under conservative estimates.

So what happens now for Disney and Lucasfilm? What is Kathleen Kennedy's next play?

Contrary to popular opinion at the moment, the current plan of attack for Lucasfilm should be to change absolutely nothing and move ahead with whatever plans that they have ANNOUNCED.

I say "announced" for a couple reasons. Without spoiling anything at the end of Solo, there is some interesting opportunity that presents itself (those of you who have seen it will know what I'm talking about). Should Disney go ahead with whatever plans they have tucked away in the back-pocket, it could turn out to be another Solo situation, massively underperforming massively and losing a lot of money for Disney.

However, here's the deal - Star Wars and Lucasfilm have planned a few movies, including Star Wars: Episode IX, Boba Fett, and Kenobi. These films have been in development for awhile, and should everything continue according to plan, these films will come out with the vision that Lucasfilm had planned.

One bump in the road is not enough for Lucasfilm to flip their entire plan - that's a job for DC and Warner Bros. Should this pattern continue, however, and they might have a situation on their hands. But as of right now, Disney and Lucasfilm will move ahead wit their films as they should. And who knows, maybe Solo is the last box office bomb in a long time.

Solo is in theaters now.
